What is a sprocket vs gear?
Gears typically transmit motion by meshing together, causing movement in other machinery parts. In contrast, chain sprockets directly engage with machinery components to transfer motion. Gears interact by pushing against each other, leveraging their collective movement to drive larger mechanical systems.
Can I change Chain sprockets without changing the chain?
In practice, chains tend to wear out more quickly than chain sprockets. Therefore, it's typically advisable to replace the chain when installing a new chain sprocket.
How do you size a Chain sprocket?
To determine the pitch diameter of a chain sprocket, measure the bottom diameter by gauging the distance between the gaps opposite each other on sprockets with an even number of teeth. Add half of the roller diameter to each side to calculate the pitch diameter.
