Lubricate of Conveyor Chains
Lubricate Your Conveyor Chain?
Proper lubrication can effectively extend the service life of the conveyor chain up to 100 times the normal service life. Lubrication slows the inevitable wear between the pin and bushing in the chain joint.
There are several methods to lubricate the conveyor chain:
Manual lubrication
To manually lubricate your conveyor chain, brush or spray regularly every eight hours, or at long intervals if applicable.
Drip lubrication
The drip method is a lubrication method in which oil is dripped between the link plates or side bar edges, usually at a rate of 20 drops per minute.
Oil bath lubrication
Oil bath lubrication consists of passing a short section of the chain through the oil, with the oil level extending to the pitch line at the lowest operating point of the chain.
Slinger disk lubrication
Slinger disk lubrication lubrication involves a rotating plate picking up oil from the bottom of the housing and "hanging" it to a collection plate.
Oil steam lubrication
Wobble plate lubrication involves a rotating plate picking up oil from the bottom of the housing and "hanging" it to a collection plate.
The correct type and method of lubrication must be used and should always be based on the requirements of the working environment. To ensure proper lubrication, develop a detailed maintenance schedule and follow it carefully.
Many industries rely heavily on the successful operation of conveyors. If these conveyors fail, the downtime can have a significant impact on the bottom line. It is critical that the operator properly maintains the conveyor chain to maximize its life and reduce the risk of equipment failure.
